I used to go here when I was at school in Tring, admittedly when I was 12 or so. If you have older kids going they would need to be pretty nerdy about museums as I was to enjoy it. I can imagine the little one's would appreciate it more.

Miniature Natural History Museum

This is a great little place for kids to explore. It's a miniature scale version of the London natural history museum and houses a collection of over 4,000 stuffed animals. If your children love animals in glass cases and want to spend an hour or so in this museum it's fantastic. There is a play room for kids with interactive things for them to get involved in, e.g making animals, puzzles,etc. The only drawback is that it only has stairs, so be prepared to leave your pushchair in a room and walk with babies in your arms or carry them up stairs to see the exhibits.
